The Willoughby River!

The river goes throughout West Sussex, and across several counties and on for miles and miles! It has lush green plants, sandy banks, and clear flowing water...that can get up to 3 and a half meters deep in a typicall winter, covering 2 of our large old stone birdges ( one of which has a cool rope swing tree, that goes over the river.)

I spent 2010 concentrating on the river in paticular! I got to bring to peoples eyes the secret lives of river wildlife, with photography and footage.

The river may look shallow in these pictures but it gets really deep, and these were taken in the heat of summer.

The river has been known to get 3 meters deep in the past, but in the past 11 years, it has only got 2 and a half meters deep, almost completly covering the old stone bridge.

It is home to large population of  blue winged Demoisell agiron. A large population of dragon flies. Kingfishers, Mink (see photo below), Bank Vole, and lots of fish species...(see "Information" on this website!)

Hopefully in a few years otters will be in this river, like they use to be in most british rivers.

Kingfishers are happy breeding here!

The old rope swing that goes over the river has been here for years, but has been replaced many times.

There are many fish species at the river, here are only a few of them, as we are still discovering more. This will be updated every now and then.

ALL FISH WERE CAUGHT WITH CARE AND THEN RELEASED AS THEY WERE FOUND, AS PART OF A RECORD KEEPING PROJECT!

This chub fish below was found dead with a crayfish in it's mouth! Weird or what.
